Whitehouse Fire Co. 2nd Annual Spring Craft Show April 13, 2002

Local Businesses Contribute to Success of Craft Show

Whitehouse Station, April 13, 2002: Whitehouse Fire Co. #1, Inc. will host their second Annual Spring Craft Show and Exhibition. The show will be held at the Firehouse at 271 Main Street in Whitehouse Station. Forty Nine talented artists will be featured, showing fine quality merchandise such as hand crafted furniture, jewelry, floral items, stained glass, real decorated eggs, linens, Teddy Bears and handmade soaps & lotions. Decorative hand painting can be found on almost anything including furniture, glass, tin, and all kinds of wood. All work displayed in the show is designed and handcrafted by the exhibiting artist. Crafters are required to submit photographs of their merchandise and display prior to acceptance in the juried exhibition. All work is judged for quality, originality and variety. Sue Favre, owner of Handmade Treasures, a local craft and gift store, provides her assistance in the jury process. "What makes a great show is a good variety of high quality merchandise. That's what brings return customers, usually accompanied by family and friends." Says Sue.

Many of the Crafters are very generous to supply an item for the Tricky Tray Auction. We usually have over fifty items included. Admission to the show is a $1.00 donation and includes one free tricky tray ticket. .Refreshments will be sold throughout the event. Local businesses that will be helping out with the refreshments are Bishop's Supermarket, Bagel Junction, Pamela's Café, The Whitehouse Cake Box, Readington Farms and Quick Chek. Firemen's families will be baking up all sorts of goodies for the bake sale. We've even had customers come in and bring a tasty treat to add for sale!

This will be the fourth show that the Fire Company will host. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Fire Company. Planning for the Holiday 2002 show is now under way. The dates are November 9 and 10, 2002, so be sure to mark your calendars! All requests for applications should be directed to Sue or Ed. Please call (908) 534-6213 for an application and more information. Due to the overwhelming response to these events, the Spring Show was full to crafters with a waiting list well in advance of the show date! The deadline for both shows is "when full". So be sure to call today!

Silent Auction...

New for this show will be a silent auction. With a new larger Committee planning the event, we decided to go one step further. Local area businesses have been very generous and have supplied a very nice variety of wonderful items. Gifts donated include everything from Dog grooming, by Canine Designs, to Jewelry by Tall Cedars Jewelers, to Gift Certificates by La Casa Bianca Restaurant, just to mention a few.

Bicycle Raffle...

A raffle will be another featured event during the show. Garden State Bicycle has once again generously donated a new bicycle for our raffle. This will be the fourth bicycle that Gary Fitch, owner, will be donating to the Fire Company Craft Shows. The first was awarded at the Holiday 2000 Show that the Fire Company hosted. All of our shows have been major fundraisers for the Fire Company. We're grateful to all the local businesses for their tremendous support. A new bicycle will be on display at the Firehouse during the exhibition, but if the bicycle shown does not suit your needs, not to worry! Gary will allow the winner of the bicycle to claim a better fitting substitution. The value of the displayed bike can be exchanged. Arrangements will be made for the winner to choose their perfect bike at the store.

Local businesses lend their support…

"Support from local businesses has been overwhelming. Many wonderful items were donated for our silent auction." Says Kim Weger, Chairperson on the Committee. But the contributions didn't end there. United Trust Bank generously sponsored the purchase of our beautiful new signs for the event, perhaps you have seen them along the highway. Van Doren Oil and D&W Chimney are helping with the expense of advertising. Local businesses that will be helping out with refreshments are Bishop's Super Market, Pamela's Café, The Whitehouse Cake Box, King's Super Market, Bagel Junction, Quick Chek and Readington Farms.
